Therapy with Nushka

Thank you for being here – I know reaching out for therapy takes courage. Whether you’re navigating major life transitions, healing from the past, or struggling with ongoing mental health challenges, I’m here to support you. I offer therapy in English and Bulgarian in Alkmaar, Castricum and internationally online. I work from a compassionate, trauma-informed and research-grounded approach, honouring your unique story and identity, while recognising how societal and systemic factors impact your wellbeing.

Whatever you might be going through healing is possible, there is a way forward, and I’d be honoured to walk the path with you.

Therapy with me

I provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental space where we can explore what has happened to you that has led to your struggles. I am trained to work with specific mental health conditions in a solution-focused way and have experience supporting persistent and enduring difficulties. At the same time, I see mental health problems often as the result of our best attempts to cope with extremely difficult situations.

In therapy we will honour the survival strategies that served you in the past and create space for new ways of being that can help you live a fulfilling life.

My approach to therapy is embodied, trauma-informed, and attuned to neurodiversity, cultural backgrounds, and our connection to nature. The work of therapy is also about developing a more compassionate relationship with yourself, recognizing the wider issues that might be affecting your experience, reclaiming your power and developing skills that can help you thrive in the complex world we live in.

FAQ

How can therapy help me?

Therapy provides a safe, non-judgmental space to explore what’s behind your struggles and develop new ways of coping. It can help you develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself and gain practical tools to navigate life’s challenges with greater resilience and fulfillment.

What difficulties can you help me with?

I provide specialist therapy for a range of mental health difficulties, including PTSD and complex trauma, OCD, anxiety, bipolar disorder and psychosis. Some of the themes I support clients with are self-criticism, hopelessness and burn-out. I provide support for adjustment difficulties, such as the impact of illness and for questions about meaning, belonging and identity.

What to expect from my first session?

The first session’s aim is to get to know each other and understand what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask about your background and current concerns, and you can share only what feels comfortable, with no pressure to dive deep. You can ask questions about the therapy process and see if we feel like a good fit.

What will the next sessions look like?

Each session is tailored to your needs, with pace and direction according to your readiness and what is most helpful for us to address. This can range between exploring patterns in your thoughts and feelings or working through specific situations. I like to bring nature and creative methods into therapy, but the process is always collaborative. The work will include practicing some things between sessions as this is where you want change to happen!

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the person and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. I tend to work in blocks of 3 and 6 sessions, with a review at the end of each block. We will agree on the frequency and appointment times together, but usually clients go for weekly or fortnightly sessions.

Are the services confidential?

Yes, everything you share is strictly confidential. If you want me to share information related to your care, such as with your doctor or family, you decide how much can be shared and with whom. The only exceptions are rare legal requirements involving imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse, or disclosure ordered by the court. If I need to break confidentiality in these cases, I will always try to make you aware first. You can find information about this in the terms and conditions and privacy policy.
